Today was even better than yesterday. In fact, I’d like to retract my comments
about Escalante being the most unique and scenic bike ride I've ever experienced. The road into and through Capitol Reef
National Park was nothing short of spectacular, especially on a bike.

About 10 miles from Park entrance |
But first we had a 13-mile granny gear climb from 6,200
elevation to 9,600. At the top, we could see all the way back to where we had
come from Bryce the day before.

The long, hot & windy ride into the park |
Then a
thrilling descent on a 10% grade (I hit 42 MPH) for a few miles until a gentle
descent parts down to the Capitol Reef National Park where we had lunch. The temperature was 102. The rock formations are stunning, and there weren't hordes of tourists and busses, especially those filled with annoying Asians in high heel shoes taking more photos of themselves than of the magnificent scenery.
It was a long grind to Hanksville, with some cross
winds that nearly blew us off the road a couple of times. 85 miles total, but all in all, a very
memorable day.
